Delhi Capitals have named Axar Patel as their captain for the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) season, replacing Rishabh Pant, who joined Lucknow Super Giants during the mega auction. Axar, a key player in India’s Champions Trophy-winning squad, has been with DC since 2019, playing 82 matches.

A seasoned IPL performer with 150 games, Axar has accumulated 1653 runs and 123 wickets, including a remarkable 2016 hat-trick for Punjab. Despite limited captaincy experience, he was appointed India’s T20I vice-captain earlier this year and has led Gujarat in domestic tournaments like the Vijay Hazare Trophy.
DC, one of three original IPL teams yet to win a title, finished sixth last season with seven wins and losses each. With new management, including head coach Hemang Badani, they begin their campaign against Lucknow on March 24 in Visakhapatnam. Senior players KL Rahul and Faf du Plessis will add experience to the squad.
