Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney is set to remain in power, but his hopes for a majority government appear uncertain. Late Monday night, with results in from nearly all ridings, the Liberals were projected to win 163 seats—just short of the 170 needed for a majority—while the Conservatives trailed closely with 146. Carney, making his electoral debut, secured a commanding win in Nepean, Ontario, garnering nearly two-thirds of the vote.

Despite pre-election polls predicting a Liberal majority, the final vote share between the Liberals and Conservatives remained tight, with only a three percent gap. The Conservatives made significant gains in Ontario, particularly in the GTA, while the Liberals picked up seats in Quebec but faltered in Alberta and Saskatchewan. Several ridings were too close to call, with margins under 100 votes, leaving the final seat count—and potential balance of power—in limbo.
