A plane operated by Honduran carrier Lanhsa crashed into the sea shortly after taking off from Roatan Island on Monday, killing at least seven people. The aircraft, carrying 17 passengers, including three crew members, was en route to La Ceiba airport on the mainland.

Rescue teams retrieved 10 survivors from the wreckage, but six were pronounced dead at the hospital. Another crew member’s body was later found floating near the crash site, about a kilometer from the coast. Authorities said recovery efforts were challenging due to the plane's location in the water.
The victims included a U.S. and a French national, as well as two minors. The crash’s visuals have circulated widely on social media. Major Wilmer Guerrero of the fire department confirmed the fatalities, while police chief Lisandro Muñoz highlighted the difficulties in rescue operations. The cause of the crash remains unknown as investigations continue.
