Mark Carney has been elected as Canada’s new Prime Minister after securing an overwhelming victory in the Liberal Party leadership race, following Justin Trudeau’s resignation. In his victory speech, Carney firmly rejected U.S. influence, stating, "America is not Canada, and it never will be." His remarks were seen as a direct response to U.S. President Donald Trump’s push to integrate Canada more closely with the United States.

The 59-year-old economist, a former Governor of both the Bank of Canada and the Bank of England, played a crucial role in stabilizing Canada’s economy during the 2008 financial crisis. Carney won the Liberal leadership with more than 85% support, despite being new to politics.
Warning against U.S. intentions, he asserted, "They want our resources, water, and land. If they succeed, our way of life will be at risk." He previously likened Trump to Voldemort, the antagonist from Harry Potter.
