Nearly 300 Indian nationals trapped in Myanmar’s scam centres have been repatriated via Thailand, as part of an international crackdown on illegal online fraud operations run by Chinese syndicates. These individuals were among thousands deceived into forced labor in scams involving romance and investment fraud.

Indian officials coordinated their evacuation, transporting 266 men and 17 women in seven buses to Thailand's Mae Sot airport. A C-17 transport aircraft was deployed to bring them home, with another 257 Indians set to return the next day.
While India successfully repatriated its citizens, many freed workers, primarily Chinese, remain stranded near the Myanmar-Thailand border in harsh conditions. China has already brought back over 2,000 of its nationals and continues to dismantle these fraud hubs. The crackdown has led to the release of around 7,000 victims from more than 24 countries, exposing the scale of these multi-billion-dollar cybercrime operations.
