Sunita Williams is a trailblazing astronaut and a role model in the world of space exploration. Born on September 19, 1965, in Euclid, Ohio, to Indian and Slovenian parents, she has built a remarkable career as a NASA astronaut and a U.S. Navy officer. Williams holds degrees in physical science and engineering management and served as a naval aviator before being selected as an astronaut in 1998.

Williams has spent an impressive 322 days in space over two missions, setting records for women in space at the time. Her missions, STS-116 and Expedition 14/15, took her to the International Space Station (ISS), where she conducted numerous scientific experiments, maintenance tasks, and educational outreach. She is particularly renowned for her 50 hours and 40 minutes of spacewalking time, the most by a woman, and her role in installing solar panels on the ISS.


Beyond her technical achievements, Williams is celebrated for her approachability and commitment to inspiring the next generation. She has frequently engaged with students worldwide, emphasizing the importance of STEM education and the pursuit of dreams.


Currently, Williams is part of NASA's Artemis program, which aims to return humans to the Moon and pave the way for future Mars missions. She is slated to command missions on the Boeing CST-100 Starliner spacecraft, continuing her groundbreaking contributions to space exploration.
