U.S. President Donald Trump is set to speak with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Tuesday, aiming to push for a quick ceasefire between Ukraine and Russia. Speaking to reporters on Air Force One, Trump confirmed the scheduled call, stating, "A lot of work's been done over the weekend."
The call follows remarks from White House special envoy Steve Witkoff, who indicated on Sunday that discussions between the U.S., Ukraine, and Russia are ongoing. “I expect that there’ll be a call with both presidents this week,” Witkoff said on CNN.

Last week, Witkoff met Putin in Moscow after Ukraine agreed to a U.S.-proposed 30-day ceasefire during talks in Saudi Arabia. However, Putin rejected the proposal, citing unresolved issues. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov noted that Putin had conveyed messages to Trump and expressed “cautious optimism” about a potential agreement. The upcoming conversation between Trump and Putin could be a crucial step toward a ceasefire.
