The US is set to impose a cumulative 104% tariff on Chinese imports, as confirmed by the White House to AFP, intensifying the ongoing trade conflict. This move follows President Trump's threat of additional tariffs should China retaliate. In contrast, US trade official Jamieson Greer defended the strategy, claiming it's yielding results with numerous countries seeking trade deals.  Â

China, however, staunchly rejects what it perceives as "blackmail," asserting its resolve to "fight to the end."
This hardline stance contrasts with the more conciliatory approaches of other Asian nations. European Union President Ursula von der Leyen urged China's Premier Li Qiang for a negotiated resolution, highlighting the importance of a fair trading system. Discussions also centered on establishing a mechanism to monitor potential trade diversions caused by the tariffs. The escalating situation has triggered market volatility and concerns among US Republicans.
