Mumbai Indians' scouting team has unearthed another gem in 24-year-old wrist-spinner Vignesh Puthur. The Kerala-born left-arm spinner made a dream IPL debut against Chennai Super Kings on March 23, 2025, taking three wickets in his first three overs, including captain Ruturaj Gaikwad.

Despite never playing senior-level cricket for Kerala, Vignesh showcased remarkable composure. Originally a medium pacer, he transitioned to spin while playing for St Thomas College, Thrissur. His performances in the Kerala Cricket League caught MI’s attention, leading to his Rs 30 lakh signing in the 2025 IPL auction.
Coming from a humble background in Malappuram, Vignesh's journey has been fueled by perseverance. Earlier this year, MI sent him to SA20, where he trained with Rashid Khan. With his bowling speed in the high 70 kph range, reminiscent of Kuldeep Yadav, Vignesh is set to be a key player for MI this season.
